Well-organized tour with friendly staff

The private transportation is a reallyyyy nice touch. The drive was super pleasant, the driver was chatty and nice, and the air-conditioning was a lifesaver (we were visiting in July). Oh, and he was bang-on time! My favorite part of the tour itself was the Hall of Mirrors - the garden reflected in the mirrors was absolutely gorgeous. Five stars for this tour.

Perfect day-trip

With a week in Paris, we were looking for alternative activities outside of the city. This private tour was great; long enough to take up a day because there was so much to see. Plus, I liked that we could just do what we wanted and explore freely. Audio guide was very educational, and I learned a lot about Marie Antoinette!

Versailles VIP Tour

EXPLORE THE PALACE OF VERSAILLES, FORMER RESIDENCE OF THE FRENCH MONARCHY

It’s best to start your Versailles Private Tour with Versailles Palace itself, as your driver will drop you off at its entrance. The rich, ornamented Baroque Palace was built by Louis XIV, with construction beginning in 1661 and continuing until 1715. It served as the official French royal residence and hosted countless beautiful artwork, furniture, and architecture. You’ll see an example as soon as you arrive at the palace when passing through the Royal Gate–a grandiose, gold gate serving as the palace entrance. Other wonders inside the palace include the Hall of Mirrors–a glittering gallery of 357 mirrors, 17 windows, and a 30-fresco ceiling. Make sure to also see the Royal Chapel; it’s the last building constructed at Versailles during Louis XIV’s reign and decorated with his accomplishments. Finally, visit the official King's and Queen's Apartments for a blast to the past. As you walk through these rooms, you’ll see and understand how the monarchs lived in their day-to-day lives.

DISCOVER THE SPRAWLING PALACE GARDENS

Step out into 2,000 acres of lush greenery. These huge, meticulously maintained gardens host hundreds of sculptures and water jets - the perfect landscape for a relaxed stroll, with beauty surrounding you on every corner. For example, the Latona Fountain: grandiose, four-tier waterworks topped with a statue of the goddess Latona. Apollo’s Fountain is also stunning; it features a golden Greek god Apollo rising from the sea atop a four-horse chariot.

WALK OVER TO THE PETIT TRIANON

Your Versailles Private Tour offers access to the palace gardens, including the Petit Trianon. This Neoclassical château was commissioned by Louis XV's mistress, Madame de Pompadour, later used by his final mistress, Madame du Barry, and finally gifted to Marie Antoinette by Louis XVI as her private sanctuary. This estate served as the queen’s private chambers, and is a marvel in Neoclassical architecture. Enter the building to see the huge, sweeping staircase, the gorgeous Silverware Room, the Reception Room, and, of course, Marie Antoinette’s personal rooms. You will learn what daily life was like for French royals from your audio guide!

RELAX AND TRAVEL BACK TO YOUR HOTEL

Once you’ve finished the private tour, our driver will drop you off at your hotel. Lean back and rest, looking out at the passing landscape as you recall all the stunning sights you saw.

Did you know that Marie Antoinette had her own private estate at the Palace of Versailles?

The wife of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, had her own personal estate at the Palace of Versailles–the Petit Trianon. It included a theater, a farm, and even a Temple of Love, housing a statue of Cupid. Near the temple, Marie Antoinette also built a private grotto, which was a cave-like, secluded area overgrown with greenery. You can explore all of this on a dedicated Marie Antoinette Estate Tour, which takes you through the most intimate parts of her former retreat.
