Simple booking and fast access to the palace

When you come from Australia, like me and my friends do, you don't have any time to waste. That was the main reason we booked this guided tour. We travel a lot and always prefer to book guided tours with the "skip-the-line" option. The booking process went simple and we entered the palace immediately. As a big fan of chocolate, I was amused to hear that Louis XIV adored it to such an extent that he had his recipe for making a special hot chocolate. As for the palace itself, Versailles is impossible to describe!

The best tour of Versailles Palace!

Visiting Versailles was my wife’s greatest wish so we decided to go for a wedding trip to France. The line to enter the palace was huge, but luckily this tour includes fast-track access so we bypassed that entire line. The Hall of Mirrors was the most impressive part of the tour! And the moment we looked out through the central window, we decided to spend some additional time in the royal gardens after the guided tour.

DESCRIPTION

Versailles Palace and Gardens Tour

From a hunting lodge to the epicenter of the French Revolution, the Versailles Palace became one of the World Heritage sites visited by more than 15 million people annually. Our guide will take you through the last built chapel in the palace - The Royal Chapel. You will also get a glimpse of the most intimate royal chambers. Entering the king's and queen's bedrooms you will realize that not only did they not share a common bedroom, but they each had a separate part of the court called King's apartment and Queen's apartment. They both led completely separate lives and had different responsibilities. At the final point of our tour, you will feel free to enjoy the beauty of the royal gardens.

THE HALL OF MIRRORS

Considered as the most impressive part of the Versailles palace it is famous for its lavishness and luxury. You will see a place where the end of the First World War was signed. The Hall of Mirrors was built by Louis XIV. This type of building was quite a shock to the world - until then, no one had ever built anything like it. Passing under 43 chandeliers, you will see yourself in no less than 357 mirrors integrated into 17 arches. Along with the tour through the hall, you will also visit two accompanying rooms: the Peace Room and the War Room.

THE ROYAL GARDENS

Stepping into the royal gardens around the Palace of Versailles with its 400 sculptures and 600 fountains, you enter the world's largest open-air museum spanning 800 hectares. There you can take a walk through spacious paths and then have a moment of rest. If you wish to find out more details about the royal gardens's curiosities such as labyrinth, in addition to the Versailles palace and garden tour, consider booking the optional guided garden tour.

HISTORICAL FIGURES OF THE FRENCH MONARCHY

Our professional guides will tell you the story of Versailles palace and gardens which begins far back in the year 1607 when young Dauphin, future king Louis XIII, came to the village of Versailles for a hunting trip. “The state is me” (“l’état c’est moi”) is the Sun King’s most popular sentence which perfectly depicts the atmosphere of the absolutist rule of Louis XIV. During this tour you will also find out more about the other famous occupants of the Versailles palace: Marie Antoinette and her husband Louis VI, Madame de Pompadour, and Countess Du Barry.

Interesting facts about the Versailles Palace

  • The meaning of “trianon” is a small elegant villa, usually additional to some larger object at the property. In Versailles there are two trianons: The Grand Trianon and the Petit Trianon. There is an option to book guided tours for both of them.
  • As you enter the Hall of Mirrors, you should know a few things: the best perspective for taking photos is at the very end of the hall. Be sure to take the opportunity to stop at the central window in the hall and enjoy the grand view for a moment.
  • Almost everything was made into a ceremony at court - even the king's awakening. During the so-called 'getting-up ceremony', the king would dress and have soup for breakfast. Spectators, the closest of his servants, would often gather around such an event, a maximum of a hundred of them.
  • The name Dauphin (French for dolphin) actually translates as "Chair to the French throne" of “Heir to the French throne” - it was always the eldest son of the King of France.
  • For a deeper and fully personalized experience of these unique details, we recommend the Versailles Luxury Private Tour.
