Beautiful shows!
If you can swing it, see the Versailles musical fountain show at night. We were in Paris for the weekend, and everyone agreed we had to see in the little time we had. And it was sooo worth it - the combination of the lights, the water, and the music is just something else. It felt like a fairy tale!
I could watch the fountain shows all day
This musical garden made me a garden person, and I was not a garden person. I’m more the kind of girl to play video games all day. But it was absolutely beautiful. The fountain shows in particular, but I also enjoyed just exploring the musical garden - the baroque music really makes the experience all that more enjoyable.

WATCH THE MESMERIZING VERSAILLES FOUNTAIN SHOW
The Gardens of Versailles have over 600 water fixtures. Explore the greenery, and you’ll see the fountains burst into waterfalls, sprays, and spouts, accompanied by baroque music (by Handel, Lully, and others). The waterworks make the fountains come alive; for example, at The Enceladus Fountain, water shoots out from Enceladus’s mouth, symbolizing the giant’s scream of pain. At the Apollo Fountain, a water jet represents Apollo’s flight.
EXPERIENCE THE NIGHT FOUNTAIN SHOWS
Sometimes, the Versailles Fountain Show lights up the night. Against a backdrop of baroque music, the gardens’ groves and fountains are illuminated to make a dazzling visual performance. Make sure to catch the Mirror Fountain’s bright waterworks, lasers in the Colonnade Grove, and fireworks at the end of the night.
STROLL THROUGH THE MUSICAL GARDENS
You’ll also find baroque music amongst 15 beautiful groves, areas without waterworks. Explore slowered parterres, gardens, and groves, all whilst relaxing to the 17th-century musical masterpieces of Lully, Rameau, Charpentier, Leclair, Campra, and other artists. The gardens are like an open-air museum, and throughout your stroll, you’ll come across hundreds of statues of Apollo, Proserpine, the Marmousets, and more.
EXIT VERSAILLES FEELING RELAXED
Leave Château de Versailles feeling rested after wandering through the gardens and listening to music. Why not get a drink nearby to reflect on everything you saw? The No Water cocktail bar is nearby.

Do you know when the first Versailles fountain show was held?
On April 27th, 1666. The show consisted of opening all the fountains simultaneously - when King Louis XIV, the Sun King, would pass nearby. The exact, correct moment was signaled via whistle.
Although the Versailles Fountain Show has been happening for over 350 years, the fountain shows we know today were not created until the 19th century.
